A writer (Duris) leaves Paris in the pursuit of his two kids, who’ve been uprooted to New York by his ex-wife (Reilly). Just as he’s chided by the editor of his novel-in-progress over how his work lacks real drama, this hip, middle-class fairytale is more modern-living complications than actual story. Still, peer past the immediate rom-com façade and there’s a hint of something deeper, as Duris finds himself a bit lost in translation with the trappings of his new life.
Casse-tête chinois | Directed by Cédric Klapisch (France, USA 2013) with Romain Duris, Audrey Tautou and Kelly Reilly. Starts May 1
