“Loneliest Planet” tells the harrowing story of an engaged couple, Alex and Nica, and their local guide traveling across Georgia.
Encounters along the way, notably with an old man armed with a rifle, test the couple’s bond: when Alex reflexively shields himself with Nica before realizing his mistake and reversing their positions, their relationship struggles to recover. Set against the solitary and breathtaking Caucasus Mountains, Loneliest Planet uses minimalist cinematography to achieve a voyeuristic perspective on basic human interaction.
Loneliest Planet | Directed by Julia Lektov (USA, Germany 2011) with Gael Garcia Bernal, Hani Furstenberg, Bidzina Gujabidze. Starts January 3
