OUT NOW! A beautiful, unique, artistic dance documentary, Wenders' PINA is also shot in 3D.

Now that the art-house crowd has liberated 3D from the multiplex, the possibilities are endless. Wenders’ fantastic documentary on Pina Bausch and the Tanztheater Wuppertal is a spectacular celebration of the late master of modern dance, and seems bound to win a new audience for the form. It intersperses sequences from her famous pieces – beautifully enhanced by the extra dimension – with intimate reminiscences from the dancers about their mentor. Some of these are extremely adoring, to the point where they virtually impute supernatural powers on Bausch, but this only conveys the trust and artistic certainty she commanded. Wenders provides witty cinematic flourishes, especially when he films individual dances in the humdrum surroundings of Wuppertal. He reckons in five years’ time all documentaries will be in 3D. He’s set the bar high already.
