Don’t call me

OUT NOW! I PHONE YOU is the visual easyJet guide, bordering on fetishization, entirely devoid of charm.

When Ling follows her sugar daddy from China to Berlin, her lover – who wants to get rid of Ling ASAP – sends his hectic bodyguard to Tegel to get rid of the girl. Together, they experience Berlin, complete with exciting turns around the Siegessäule, strict Ordnungsamt ladies and funny Turkish cab drivers who have apparently never seen a Chinese woman. The filmmakers simply don’t see that I Phone You looks like the visual version of the easyJet guide, bordering on reverse-xenophobia, entirely devoid of charm.

I PHONE YOU | Directed by Dan Tang (Germany 2011) with Jian Yiyang, Florian Lukas. Opens May 26
