Wenders and Juliano Salgado explore documentary processes as they reconstruct the career of Salgado’s père, a renowned Brazilian-born photographer of catastrophes from Saharan famines to Rwanda’s genocide. Salgado became so disenchanted with humanity that he almost gave up the good fight until the idea of documenting the Earth’s intact natural spaces gave birth to the project “Genesis” – and this stupendous film on the moral imperative behind really good art.
The Salt of the Earth | Directed by Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, Wim Wenders (Brazil, Italy, France 2014) documentary with Sebastião Salgado. Starts October 30.
