Legal councelor Benjamin Esposito is now retired, but he can’t stop thinking about one particular murder case that remained unsolved decades ago. When he decides to write the mystery down, a Pandora’s box of forgotten memories is opened, leading to new leads in the case as well as an old love flaming up again. That El Secreto De Sus Ojos (The Secret In Their Eyes) won the 2010’s Oscar for Best Foreign Movie comes as no surprise. The dusty frames are like moving polaroids from 1970s Argentina, the characters are well written and their troubles more than convincing; it doesn’t matter if this movie is a thriller, a love story or a modern film noir, it will thrill you, move you and scare you (just a little bit). Let the Argentinean Jean Reno (Ricardo Darìn) reveal whose eyes are keeping what secret.
El Secreto De Sus Ojos | Directed by Juan José Campanella (Argentina/Spain, 2009) with Ricardo Darìn, Soledad Villamil. Opens October 28.
