XPosed: Frigid Tendencies

The ninth edition of Berlin favourite Xposed International Queer Film Festival offers up a rich array of international cinema and parties, with a particularly Scandinavian slant this year. Catch it from May 29 through Jun 1 at Moviemento.

The ninth XPOSED International Queer Film Festival shifts attention towards Scandinavia with an homage to Swedish feminist filmmaker Gunvor Nelson. Opening the ball is a screening of Nordic shorts followed by Charles Atlas’ Turning, an intimate look into the touring life of Antony and the Johnsons.

Later, head to the opening party at Südblock for Nelson’s Fog Pumas and steamy cinematic surprises in The Naughty Room. Come Friday it’s time for the German shorts, followed by Susanna Helke’s American Vagabond, a snapshot of gay homeless youth in America’s gayest city, San Francisco.

Saturday’s a queer sandwich of Nordic and international shorts with a filling of Lisa Aschan’s Apflickorna, and Sunday wraps it up with a retrospective of Nelson’s transgressive oeuvre, awards and a closing feature: Yann Gonzalez’ Les Rencontres d’apres minuit, which centres on a young couple as they prepare for an orgy.
