Nowhere real

OUT NOW! NOWHERE BOY fails to capture the real story of young John Lennon – instead its just self-absorbed.

In this biopic of young John Lennon, every sentence sounds like it has a tag attached that says, “Attention! Possible iconic phrase coming up!” Sadly, Taylor-Wood has but a slim grasp on character development. Her protagonist spends most of the film walking down the street with a cocky swagger and nothing to say other than that you need tragedy in your life to become a true artist. Only Scott Thomas manages to convey some real emotion.

NOWHERE BOY | Directed by Sam Taylor-Wood (UK, Canada 2009) with Aaron Johnson, Kristin Scott Thomas. Opens December 8.
