A memorably quiet film about recently orphaned, working class siblings Bianca and Tomas (Martelli and Ciardo), “Il Futuro” is a study of life divested of paradigmatic security.
When Tomas brings home a couple of guys from his local gym to create a semblance of family, they set up Bianca as mistress to a former Mr. Universe (Hauer), to whom she grows increasingly attached.
Unusually, Scherson’s film combines social realism with extreme and poetic lethargy in a moving portrait of vulnerability.
Il Futuro | Directed by Alicia Scherson (Italy, Chile, Germany, Spain 2013) with Luigi Ciardo, Manuela Martelli, Rutger Hauer. Starts September 12
