Kick Jung Il

OUT NOW! HANA, DUL, SED is a fascinating look into the very different world of life in an absolutist state.

The four women who are portrayed in this documentary belong to the first generation of North Korean women who put the national football team on the map, but when they failed to qualify for the 2004 Olympic tournament, their careers ended abruptly. The filmmakers probably get as intimate as possible, but Hana, dul, sed is hampered by the fact that the whole issue of what kind of a documentary can be made in an absolutist state is completely ignored. Nevertheless, a fascinating look into a different world.

HANA, DUL, SED | Directed by Brigitte Weich, Karin Macher (Austria 2009) Documentary. Opens June 9
