OUT NOW! L'AGE DE RAISON raises hopes with its Sartre-esque title. But the only existential question it asks is: Why am I here?

Margaret (Sophie Marceau) has a high-powered career and a loving husband, and has done everything to forget her unhappy, provincial upbringing. Now middle-aged, she’s suddenly haunted by a seemingly endless number of letters she wrote to her older self when she was seven. Almost sickeningly sweet, with happy-go-lucky animation sequences, and too shallow in its reflections about childhood and real life – you really have to be in the mood.

L’Age de Raison | Directed by Yann Samuell (France 2010), with Sophie Marceau and Marton Csokas. Opens December 23.
