The inconsistent German translation of the original French title is the least of this movie’s worries. Why Huppert would lend her name to this disgracefully hackneyed story in which a successful gallery manager (Huppert) succumbs to a brawny idiot savant defies good sense, good taste and good manners. It’s close to insulting to have us believe that Parisian art connoisseurs might appreciate the naive artistic visions of a talentless handyman. Or is that irony?
Mon pire cauchemar (Mein liebster Alptraum)| Directed by Anne Fontaine (France, Belgium 2011) with Isabelle Huppert, Benoît Poelvoorde, André Dussol- lier. Starts January 12
