Long before the Arab Spring brought North Africa to the forefront of global political discourse, Moroccans were embroiled in a decades-long struggle for reform.

This series of nine recent features and documentaries highlights movies that dare to tackle taboo subjects and to challenge the Moroccan censorship board.

They include an investigation of the human rights infringements under the regime of King Hassan II in Our Forbidden Places (Sep 3, 16:30, Arabic and French with English subs, photo) and an experimental exploration of trans- and homosexuality, child abuse and corruption in the highly controversial One Minute of Sun Less (Sep 3, 21:15, Arabic with English subs).

Every screening includes a discussion with the director or an expert.
