A struggling Munich businessman takes a day out of negotiating with “the Chinese” to effect a quick transfer of his mother’s provincial Bavarian existence to a home for dementia sufferers. But she has other ideas for salvation and sets off behind his back on a pilgrimage to the “Black Madonna” of Altötting. More humanitarian than religious in spirit, Ammann’s exploration of familial respect proceeds quirkily through woods and fields in an unusual and largely unsentimental perception of age, acceptance – and rebellion.
Nebenwege | Directed by Michael Ammann (Germany 2014) with Roeland Wiesnekker, Christine Ostermayer. Starts July 3.
