Neukölln Unlimited

OUT NOW! This local favourite has it all: a gripping storyline, breathtaking breakdancing and stars you root for all the way.

On paper, the Akkouchs are a typical Neukölln family, struggling financially and under constant pressure to retain an Aufenthaltserlaubnis.

But the triumphs and tribulations of their teenagers challenge immigrant clichés; a fly-on-the-wall camera shows them joking and quarrelling; and animation is used in a moving passage about their temporary deportation to Lebanon.

With a gripping storyline, breathtaking breakdancing and protagonists you root for all the way, the film is both insightful and very entertaining.

NEUKÖLLN UNLIMITED | Directed by Agostino Imondi, Dietmar Rasch (Germany 2010) with Hassan, Lial and Maradona Akkouch. German OV (with English subtitles at select cinemas). Opens in Berlin cinemas on April 8.
