No love lost

OUT NOW! The romance is reluctant and the comedy is contrived in LOVE, ROSIE.

Highly contrived romantic comedy about bad timing keeping two life-long friends from taking the next step. A couple of refreshing plot twists are thrown in, only to be quickly neutralised by the laws of the genre or drowned in smarmy music. Collins nails some moments of tender solitude, but Claflin fumbles. Lacking the star wattage that made My Best Friend’s Wedding a meteoric burst of fun, Love, Rosie fares more like the muted One Day with similarly reluctant onscreen chemistry.

Love, Rosie | Directed by Christian Ditter (USA, UK 2014) with Lily Collins, Sam Claflin. Starts October 30
