When three become four

OUT NOW! OUR LITTLE SISTER sweetly uses the tale of three sisters who become four when the family adopts as a metaphor for tradition on the brink of fading away.

Returning to the safety of delicate domestic drama à la Like Father, Like Son, Koreeda’s latest is the sugary tale of three sisters who become four when they adopt another half-sibling. Exploring the bonds between the girls and their estranged relationship with parents, the film reveals a sorority of mutually supportive women. With a rickety old house as backdrop, it also becomes a metaphor for a troubled Japanese legacy, where tradition is on the brink of being sold out.

Our Little Sister | Directed by Hirokazu Koreeda (Japan 2015) with Haruka Ayase, Masami Nagasawa, Kaho. Starts December 17
