Good lieutenants?

OUT NOW! In POLISSE, Paris' Child Protection Unit become tiresome martyrs amidst a sensitive topic.

Reminiscent of 2008’s The Class in style and dynamic, Polisse provides an empathetic look at the work of the Paris police’ Child Protection Unit – a highly dedicated team willing to sacrifice everything, particularly their private life, for justice. The police’ tainted reputation is bemoaned several times, and as the protagonists are elevated to saintly martyr figures, the film loses credibility to the point of becoming downright grinding, undermining its own strengths, which lie in the powerful direction and performances and in its detached treatment of the most sensitive of topics, paedophilia.

Polisse (Polizei) | Directed by Maïwenn Le Besco (France 2011) with Karin Viard, Joey Starr, Marina Foïs. Starts October 27
