It’s 1990 and a trio of freshly arrived Russians trip leadenly through Berlin trying to fill the shoes of characters created by writer Wladimir Kaminer in the eponymous collection of stories. Why? Why turn shorts into continuous narrative? Why cast Schweighöfer as Kaminer? How come everybody speaks fluent Hochdeutsch? And just FYI: Balkan rock didn’t save Madonna’s directorial debut, and it won’t save this movie either.
Russendisko | Directed by Oliver Ziegenbalg (Germany 2012) with Matthias Schweighöfer, Christian Friedel, Friedrich Mücke. Starts March 29
