Have yourself a different kind of summer lovin’ blast on July 13 when the Berlin Film Society presents a special screening of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s cult Mexican-Italian avant-garde thriller Santa Sangre (1989) at Cabuwazi Circus.
Told in garishly psychedelic tones, set alternately in a circus and a mental institution and covering just about every surreal psycho trauma in the book (think mutilation and murder mixed up with various Freudian complexes), Santa Sangre is the epitome of honest horror.
The screening will open with ballet and circus performances, while Mexican liquor San Cosme Mezcal and chocolate from Berlin’s very own Bonvodou will be at hand to help cushion the film’s psychological blows. The post-screening party with sounds from Carlo, Jack Haighton and Ricardo Esposito should shake out any remaining demons.
Doors open 19:30, show starts 21:00, Circo Santa Sangre party 23:00. (€8 at the door but get in for five if you come in circus fancy dress).
