When a police detective reopens an old murder case, he unfolds long-buried secrets from boarding school days. The “noir” atmosphere rooted in deep-seated corruption and wickedness beneath a lavish façade is enhanced by an inclement backdrop and sepia-toned images. Instead of who-done-it, the second adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s novels focuses on the process of hide-and-seek and presents a well-paced roller coaster across stratified class milieus: reasonably thrilling but far from mind-blowing.
