At first glance, Step Up Revolution is another product of Hollywood’s incessant franchise machine. Revolving around a flash mob crew competing to win a grand prize and star-crossed lovers trying to save a poor neighbourhood, it feels like recycled material from previous films. However, while sometimes indulging in sappiness to the detriment of action, the film is dedicated, first and foremost, to dance. In this respect, it delivers. The choreography is creative and alluring, using 3D to give the dancers and their performances an added level of depth and life.
Step Up Revolution | Directed by Scott Speer (USA 2012) with Ryan Guzman and Kathyrn McCormick. Starts August 30
