Awkwardly okay

OUT NOW! The straight-boy Sex and The City equivalent THAT AWKWARD MOMENT is hard to resist, even when you try.

When a young doctor (Michael B. Jordan) finds that his wife’s been sleeping elsewhere he makes a bet with his two best pals (Messrs. Efron & Teller) to steer clear of female commitment of any kind. They all see no issue with the pact until lady love rears her head. We can see where this is going.

Gormican’s film has been marketed as some sort of male answer to Sex and the City and it’s about as misogynistic as that premise might suggest. Everyone involved is incredibly successful and impossibly good looking with the most miniscule of first world problems and yet, despite all that, the charms of its young cast are at times irresistible.

Efron, Poots and Jordan all come from varying degrees of childhood fame and command the screen with an incredible fluency. Indeed, none are strangers to the camera but in their red hot co-star, Miles Teller, the film boasts a genuine, charismatic and likable lead. The Spectacular Now and Whiplash star is funny, charming and has charisma to burn. Some are calling him the best young actor in Hollywood. It may be hard to disagree.

That Awkward Moment | Directed by Tom Gormican (USA, 2012) with Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots and Miles Teller. Starts April 24
