Frightless in England

OUT NOW! Even though it features typical elements of a good horror story – an old English manor, a foreigner alone in a new place, dolls – THE BOY fails to elicit anything close to fear.

The Boy stars Lauren Cohen as Greta, an American with a difficult past who takes up an old couple’s offer to take care of their son, a porcelain doll, in a remote English manor. The film is another run-of-the-mill horror flick that fails to intrigue or incite anything close to fear. Although Bell makes use of just about every trick in the book, he does so without appreciation for mood, tone or rhythm, lending the proceedings a rather parodic quality.

The Boy | Directed by William Brent Bell (USA 2016) with Lauren Cohan, Rupert Evans, James Russell. Starts February 18
