Icelandic director Dagur Kári examines The Good Heart of homeless, suicidal Lucas (Paul Dano) taken under the wing of multiple coronary-patient Jacques (Brian Cox), a grumpy old man looking for a successor for his run-down New York bar in case he has another heart attack. Predictable story, but who says life is always surprising? While his characters are always almost parodies of themselves, Kári believes people can change, at least a bit, and it’s a warm and fuzzy feeling to see that happening.
The Good Heart | Directed by Dagur Kári (Denmark et al. 2009) with Paul Dano and Brian Cox. Starts November 25.
