Boy meets ghoul

OUT NOW! With a supremely poor performance from Daniel Radcliffe THE WOMAN IN BLACK unsurprisingly fails.

Radcliffe does a supremely bad job of portraying a recently widowed father and deeply afflicted solicitor haunted by a vengeful lady ghost who tempts children in a 19th-century English town to a self-inflicted and violent death. Despite this surfeit of infanticide, the film fails to evoke any emotion. Audible jolts are the only effective scare tactic. And then there are the unintentionally comic moments as our boy wizard-turned-solicitor grapples with adult visions of the afterlife.
