It might take an acquired taste for French cinematic idiosyncracies, and particularly for the boisterous playfulness of Alain the Great, to enjoy this piece of self-referential, quasi-testimonial filmed theatre. Adapting playwright Jean Anouilh’s Eurydice, the nonagenarian terrible explodes film conventions to toy about with France’s thespian aristocracy: from Sabine Azema and Pierre Arditi (long-term partners on- and off-stage) to Jacques Amalric, Hyppolite Giradot, Annie Dupeyret, Anne Consigny… if any of those names ring a bell, go!
Vous n’avez encore rien vu | Directed by Alain Resnais (France, Germany 2012) with Mathieu Amalric, Pierre Arditi, Sabine Azéma. Starts June 6
