Gliding ever-so ceremonially into its closing weekend, one would be forgiven for thinking all the movers and shakers from the kino world have shut up shop and gone to the French Riviera. Rest assured there’s still some cinematic boots on the ground to offer a solution to Cannes FOMO. With Queer film festival Xposed returning for a 16th edition, who needs Cannes?
A four-day movie spree showcasing the thriving eco-system that is Queer cinema, Xposed takes place over at Moviemento, Wolf Kino, Il Kino and Aquarium. Alongside the screenings there will be online courses, workshops, and talks with invited directors, actors and producers.
Opening last night with collection of shorts and the Rwandan afrofuturist musical drama Neptune Frost. There remains plenty of highlights for the coming weekend: San Martin’s To Kill A Beast plays at Moviemento at 22:00 – a luxuriant exploration of local mythology and the Argentinian landscape. The seminal 1995 documentary Shinujuku Boys, which explores the lives of three transgender men who worked at Tokyo’s New Marilyn Club. Wrapping things up on the Sunday – the Lolly Awards.
