Flying Fish Sushi arbores a cool-cat black and red sign outside, but the interior is rather austere and the food mediocre. The friendly long-haired hippie type who prepares sushi here trained in Düsseldorf, before working for a few sushi bars around Berlin. Sushi can be prepared expertly by non-Japanese, but here it is not. The chef even makes the big fat sushi faux pas of smoking next to the fish - an appetite destroyer. His fish is reasonably fresh, but his rice is overcooked and mushy. The poor rice distracts from the flavors of the fish and the result is watery. He also likes to add German touches to his offerings, which most of the time don't work.
