18:00 Dinner at Due Forni (Schönhauser Allee 12). Punk-rock pizza is the best.

20:00 Head over to Sophiensaele (Sophienstr. 18) to see and hear famous pieces by Alvin Lucier, and the world’s wildest saxophone players at the Sololala Festival (Dec 2-6; www.ausland-berlin.de/sololala-2009).

23:00 Chill out at Bar 3, near the Volksbühne.

Saturday

11:00 Long breakfast at home.

13:00 A walk through the Plänterwald in Treptow; we cross Rummelsburger Bay by rowboat.

19:00 Enjoy a traditional Berlin-style dinner at Zum Schusterjungen (Danziger Str. 9).

22:00 Concert at Ausland (Lychener Str. 60) or West Germany Club (Skalitzer Str. 133). Their programmes rule.

Sunday

11:00 Long breakfast at home.

13:00 Go back to bed.

16:00 Visit the Mauerpark flea market (Bernauer Str. 63-64).

20:00 Watch Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon at Kino Toni (Max-Steinke-Str. 43).
