EXB events: Tonn Nua – a festival of new Irish folk music

In Irish, Tonn Nua means "A New Wave". In Berlin, it means 2 days of concerts, workshops, céilí, and sessions on May 5 and 6.

Irish folk music is known the world over – and now a new festival wants to bring those sounds to Berlin.

Tonn Nua, meaning ‘A New Wave’ in Irish, will be 2 days of concerts, workshops, céilí, and sessions that aims to capture the spirit of the folk music revival currently underway in Ireland and beyond.

Artists like Cormac Begley, The Len Collective, Thomas McCarthy, Varo, Tadhg & Sárán Mulligan, Louise O’Connor, and the award winning Blackwater Céilí Band will all appear at Ballhaus Berlin on the 5th and 6th of May 2023.

A new generation of artists are exploring the traditions of folk music, taking old instruments, songs and arrangements and revitalising them. Audiences at home and abroad are discovering Irish traditional folk music and dance. Now, Berlin has a chance to join them.

Tonn Nua is presented with support from the Irish Traditional Music Archive and Comhaltas, and in partnership with Exberliner Magazine.
