Did Berlin really need yet another dance studio? Well, if you have small kids, or you’re looking to be coached in more languages than just German or English, you might just say yes.
Run by a young, infectiously enthusiastic team, Studio Motion dance school, which just opened its doors on Schönhauser Allee, offers kids’ classes and childcare downstairs while adult dance classes take place upstairs, allowing parents to tone up while reliving those pre-kids dancefloor days.
Children’s classes include ballroom, kung fu, stretching and the intriguing “Creative Motion” class. For the grownups, instructors from the US, Poland, Spain and Germany offer multilingual classes in a variety of styles, including jazz, hip hop, salsa, tango and “fusion”, as well as yoga and Pilates.
Though the space is clearly family-focused, the lowly Berlin single will appreciate the kitchen stocked with juice and fresh coffee, as well as Studio Motion’s chief attraction: the “MTV dance class” on Thursday evenings. Yes, an entire hour dedicated to busting out Thriller moves or ass shaking with attitude to Destiny’s Child’s “Bootylicious”.
