Away from the stage, there’s plenty else to do at the 50th Theatertreffen
NERDING: It’s the 35th anniversary of the Stückemarkt competition for new plays (all translated from the original language into German), held this year for the first time in the stunningly retro Pan Am Lounge. The staged reading programme also includes discussions and talks, a retrospective over 35 years of history, and opportunities to nerd out over theatre archives in the Hörspiele lounge.
TOURING: Take a special bus tour through the history of the festival, complete with film material and interview snippets – in German.
PARTYING: This year’s paparazzi event is TT50 – Das Fest (May 11, 19:30, HBF), in which various denizens of the theatre world will hog the mic with reminiscences and gossip, followed by a concert from the specially organised Theater Composers Orchestra and infamous Schaubühne actor Lars Eidinger’s DJ set Autistic Disco.
KEEPING UP: Follow the festival on the TT Blog (www.theatertreffenblog.de) with daily updates, reviews, gossip and English posts from Exberliner’s own Summer Banks (also on exberliner.com).
