Berlin’s English language magazine is looking for a Web/Online editor to join its editorial team at the magazine’s HQ near Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Mitte. This is a 30-hour-a-week staff position, opening in April, 2020 (with two weeks of training with predecessor beforehand). Applications should be sent to office@exberliner.com.
The perfect candidate is an ambitious native English speaker with strong writing skills, a background in online or print journalism, and a good command of digital tools and social media.
The Web Editor is responsible for managing the website and the newsletters, maintaining day-to-day online content and overseeing team work. As such she/he is also responsible for building relationships with both colleagues, journalists and sources and leading team productivity, while bringing their own, unique editorial flair to the online face of EXB.
The duties
- shaping and overseeing the editorial content on exberliner.com, as well as the biweekly newsletters
- ensuring that the website is always up-to-date and that stories/content stream onto the site consistently and seamlessly
- scheduling and strategising the online publication of articles sourced from the print edition
- devising a social media strategy that incorporates both editorial and marketing considerations
- assigning fresh online-exclusive content
- maintaining strong relationships with the chief-editor, team, editors and freelancers
- working with Metropublisher, our content management system, and maintaining contact with the company in the case of trouble-shooting
- taking part in shaping the editorial planning of the magazine together with our editor-in-chief and editorial team

- 30 hours per week in our friendly office in Berlin-Mitte

The ideal candidate
- has airtight command of English-language spelling, grammar and sentence structure – only native speakers will be considered
- has at least two years journalism or editorial experience (online preferred)
- has the ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure
- is familiar with some form of a CMS and knows their way around social media and Mailchimp
- has excellent organisation and communication skills
- is a good fit in our diverse, multi-national team
- identifies with the Exberliner brand
- is a reliable, well-organised and ambitious team player
