In a small, two-and-a-half-room ground floor gallery, Joanne Grüne-Yanoff’s work fits into the discrete aesthetic. A mix of audio visual performance art, installation and print, the main theme of her pieces are the play of meaning between body language and written statements. In one of her pieces, she interposes pictures of hands with statements that seem to contradict their position. The small pictures are printed and hung in a disorganised cloud on the wall. They are striking in combination, as one realises that simplistic statements such as “Believe in yourself” acquire more significance and sinister connotations when interposed with two tightly held hands.

White and cream become the ruling colours, into which are incorporated shocks of red, green and bright blue, and words; ‘I am stronger than any habit.’ and ‘JUST DO IT.’ A combination of disillusion and dreams, this unassuming exhibition brings the most sensitive parts of being a person to light.
