Hans
Just enough people know seminal 1980s GDR punk band Herbst in Peking or the Brothers Grimm tale, Hans im Glück (from which the film on show borrows its title), to save either from esotericism.
Grimms’ tale of a man who trades down everything he has along the way only to still remain happy at the end, is a sort of come-what-may parable – the kind of thing that Hans Narva, one-time bassist of Herbst in Peking, radiates in megatons.
Narva is both an opinionated resister and partier extreme, continually making the same mistakes again and again. But he comes out of each situation relatively unscathed or better for it. Narva’s particular fate relies on two things, luck and razor sharp observational wit. Make no mistake, this is not a story of a band, but it is a story of a punk.
Online cinema platform realeyz.tv helps bring another instalment of our film series, always with English subtitles and in Berlin’s apt-for-the-film alterna-kino. This time brings a triple dose of extras: not only a Q&A with director Claudia Lehmann, but also an unplugged performance by the Hans himself and the film will be available to our readers on realeyz.tv.
