Damla
Where are we on the whole foreign-workers/immigrant discussion? There’s a lot of opinion out there, a lot of attitude – and too little awareness of the people behind the issues. This month’s EXBlicks on June 11 gives you a chance to rectify that imbalance with Damla = Tropfen | Derya = Ozean, a short film by Elisabeth Pricken.
A camera strolls through the streets of Neukölln, looking into backyards, onto shop fronts, up and down roads. Talking off camera and counterpointed by comments from a German academic and migration expert, eloquent young Turkish women describe their educational options, family responsibilities and their attachment to the neighbourhood we see on screen.
Presenting this unusual street view of issues that play out behind closed doors, Pricken will take questions after the screening and wrap things up with a live music performance – she’s also a talented guitarist and singer/songwriter in her incarnation as Lizzie Líbera. As always, with English subtitles and in cooperation with realeyz.tv.
