With Heart of a Dog, celebrated New York City polymath Laurie Anderson meanders through animation, dreams and music in a bid to wave farewell to her beloved dog Lolabelle (and thus, allegorically, her late husband Lou Reed). Over a sprightly 75 minutes, Anderson meditates on surveillance fears and the post 9/11 landscape while finding time to promote the piano skills of her affable canine. As spirited and singular as it is deeply personal: if you dig Anderson, you’ll probably dig this.
Heart of a Dog | Directed by Laurie Anderson (France, USA 2015) with Lolabelle. Starts March 24
