Wilson’s: Prime rib treat

Who actually eats at hotel restaurants, apart from the guests? Why would anyone choose to? For the prime ribs my friend! Wilson’s is the only place in Berlin to serve the meaty American treat.

Who actually eats at hotel restaurants, apart from the guests? Why would locals venture behind the generic glass-front of the Crowne Plaza, just round the corner from the commercial hustle and bustle of Tauentzienstraße? For the prime ribs my friend! Their restaurant, recently rebranded as ‘Wilson’s’, is the only place in Berlin to serve the meaty American treat.

Prime rib, for the uninitiated, is made from, you guessed it, the ribs of free-range cattle that spend their lives on the vast grasslands of the American West and are then fed a special grain-corn feed before their final hour. The beef is then subjected to the proper prime-rib cooking process: nine hours in 59 degree water, followed by 10 minutes in the oven, resulting in a lovely crust. What ends up on your plate is some seriously superior beef with a tender texture and buttery-creamy taste – memorable!

A dinner here ain’t cheap (€31.90 to €49.50 per head), but it’s worth it. For the price, you go home happy as a hog after enjoying not only a great roast but also myriad delicious American-style sides, from fresh salad to yummy spinach to baked spuds and green beans. Their top-shelf West Coast wines and American management round out the Ami experience.
