No more junk for lunch

Sure, U-Bahn sandwiches and on-the-go döner might be a quick solution to your at-work “hangriness”, but Eatfirst actually delivers meals of a much healthier variety. For €8, you can order lunch or dinner online and have it brought to your door.

Sure, U-Bahn sandwiches and on-the-go döner might be a quick solution to your at-work “hangriness”, but Eatfirst helps you start eating like a civilised office drone.

All it takes is €8, a visit to their site (or corresponding app) and a choice of meat or vegetarian, and a fresh meal arrives at your Friedrichshain, Mitte, Tiergarten, or Kreuzberg address in “approximately” 15 minutes, often closer to five. Don’t expect gourmet from the latest offspring of Berlin-based startup incubator Rocket Internet.

Launched in London in August and in Berlin a month later, this “Uber for food” seems to target programmers without time to look at the sizeable meal which arrives compactly packaged in a plastic cafeteria-like container, plenty of (needed) salt on the side.

With Berliners deemed not quite ready for the quinoa their London techie counterparts get, dishes tend toward the unadventurous. But with daily offerings like stuffed eggplant over tomato risotto or chicken skewers and southwest veggies, EatFirst does one-up most Lieferando options on the healthy scale – and they do it faster, thanks to drivers who rove around with up to 10 meals at a time.

You’ll still get the breath of fresh air any Mittagspause should come with when you collect your meal at the curb. And as of Wednesday, January 14, you can get that breath of fresh air at dinner time, too.

Order early – they sometimes run out by 1pm – then get back to work faster and promise yourself fewer post-lunch carb-overload crashes in 2015.
