Minority sex report

Here, queer but not quite getting used to it? The latest addition to the gay scene: a sex party aimed at expats is here to make your integration easier. As of now, it's a mouthful of Germans, but check the next one for yourself on May 5 at Stahlrohr.

A gay sex night for expats gents, Expat Meat, happens on the first Monday of every month

A little bit nervous when it comes to the legend of the giant German Schwanz? Having trouble saying “Ich finde dich geil” while gobbling down schnitzel? Fear not: there’s a new sex party for horny homos who want (or need) to speak English.

Not subscribing to the adage that love is a universal language, Expat Meat at Prenzlauer Berg gay sex club Stahlrohr 2.0 aims to fill a hole for the Teutonically timid. The night is the brainchild of barkeep Dan Thompson, an American expat who’s been here less than two years but, interestingly enough, speaks very good German.

“It’s relaxing to have a night where I can speak my mother tongue,” he admits. Despite his intentions, however, the vast majority of regulars, staff and locals looking to scratch an itch at the inaugural event were German, including one English-challenged fellow who mockingly asked for a shot of “hunter-master” and then thought he was incredibly funny.

Though it’s possible more expats will start attending once the event picks up steam, for now you’re more likely to end up in a post-ficken discussion on Goethe with a German instructor than commiserating over adjective endings with an amorous Australian. But hey, for just €2.50 entrance, it’s cheaper than a course at the Volkshochschule.

And a chat with the friendly Thompson will allow you to speak English long enough to feel comfortable before it doesn’t really matter anyway.
