Tanztage 12

This edition of Sophiensæle’s platform for Berlin’s new generation of choreographers features an almost unprecedented percentage of international artists.

Tanztage artistic director and director for dance at the Sophiensæle Peter Pleyer noted that this year’s themes have also centred on identity within society.

Highlights include Chris Scherer’s Virginised (Jan 8-9, 20:30), a text-and-movement-based performance that follows his long-term character Brandon, who used to host a dance party in Australia, as he makes the big move to Berlin. Mixing autobiography and fiction, this new work promises to examine the relationships between actors and their characters while showing that contemporary dance can still be fun.

A self-proclaimed fan of trashy entertainment, Scherer will keep the evening from descending into boring theoretical platitudes. After all, Brandon was originally a member of the comedy troupe Lycra Virgins. See our full interview with Scherer here. Check www.sophiensaele.com for a full programme.
